IGDC 2024 – Ayelet Studio

IGDC 2024 just wrapped up! And, boy, we had soooo much fun!

The last few weeks have been extremely demanding for our whole team. We had planned our gameplay reveal at IGDC and that meant sleepless nights and enough caffeine to power a small army.

It’s been an unforgettable experience. As a team, we’ve been working hard on our game for a while now, and being able to showcase it at such a big event felt amazing. Let me take you through the behind the scenes of IGDC from our POV.

The Booth

We got really lucky with the booth location (or as the marketing team would like to call it – pretty strategic) as we were right next to the main stage.

We went all out to create an experience inspired by our game. The setup featured Rajendra Chola’s triumphant return with soldiers and a majestic war elephant! The highlight? Visitors could take photos with these incredible standees.

We wanted to make the experience as fun as possible, so we had our photographer on-site to capture special moments for everyone who dropped by. It turned into a fun, interactive activity that made our booth truly unforgettable!

The Dress Code

Since our game is set in southern India, we decided to full on get into the theme of our game by dressing in traditional veshtis and sarees. It was such a fun and unique experience for us and definitely turned a lot of heads at the event!.

While most booths focused purely on their game displays, we went the extra mile to bring Tamil culture to life, not just in the game we showcased but also through the way we presented ourselves. It was a proud moment to represent our heritage. (Side Note: Guess who we ran into?)

The Playtest

One of the highlights of the event for me was getting to meet so many people who were excited to try out our game. It was awesome hearing their feedback and seeing their reactions up close. There’s always something special about connecting with players directly, and IGDC gave us the perfect opportunity to do that.

The “Epic” Talk

Another standout moment was having our creative director speak on Epic’s stage. He gave a talk on “Optimizing Shader Reuse in Open World Games,” which is something we’ve been focusing on behind the scenes. It felt great to share some of the technical work we’re doing and have a chance to chat with other developers about best practices and challenges in game development

The Big Reveal

And, of course, we had our first look gameplay trailer launched at the Xbox event. It’s hard to put into words what it felt like seeing our game on the big screen for the first time.

Though it was a 9-minute-long video, the entire audience looked at it with rapt attention. The whole team has put so much effort into this, and watching the trailer come together during the event made it all feel real. Ooh, and the response - surreal

Minister’s Presence

We had hon'able Sanjay Jaju Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, drop by at our booth, where he got a glimpse of our gameplay! We’re incredibly grateful to him and everyone else who took the time to stop by and check out what we’ve been working on.

Lucky Draw

As a little way of saying thank you for all the love and support, we decided to make things extra special for our amazing audience with a lucky draw! We gave away Razer headphones on each of the two days, and it was such a joy to see so many people stop by. We had a blast interacting with everyone and sharing the excitement!

Team Dinner

And, what’s a trip to Hyderabad without the food!

To celebrate our successful trailer launch, the whole team headed to a famous Mandi joint in Hyderabad—and what a celebration it was! We had an incredible time, shared laughs, and, of course, enjoyed a feast with lots of delicious food. It was a night to remember!

Overall, IGDC 2024 was a unique experience for us as a team. We had the chance to meet incredible people, learn a lot, and take our game to the next level. We’re excited for what’s to come and can’t wait to share more with everyone. Until next time!
