The Gamescom Trailer: Son of Thanjai, As You'll Actually Play It

Catch the all new gameplay trailer of Son of Thanjai at the XBOX @ Gamescom broadcast.

After our gameplay trailer released in June 2026, our plan was to take our time and bring out a 15-20-minute walkthrough of a full mission in September/October.

But we’ve seen a lot of you asking what we’ve been up to since then, and honestly, we’ve been itching to show you more too. So, when a slot opened at Gamescom, we thought why not put out a short glimpse.

Well, it’s only the biggest stage in all of gaming. No pressure, right?

But honestly, the timing couldn’t have been better.

While we’ve shown gameplay before, we’ve always approached those reveals with a cinematic eye. What you’re about to see now is Son of Thanjai, as you’ll actually play it.

What’s in it

We introduce a new character in Vinna’s journey, Kaadhambari! (No points for guessing who she is, duh!).

From then on, it’s a glimpse of the different ways you can approach a situation. You can shadow an enemy, subdue them, bluff your way through an encounter, or use the environment to mislead them.

And, of course, when all of that fails, there’s always the Surul Vaal.

This is also a bit of an unfiltered version. We did not choose careful camera positions and composed moments but rather let the natural gameplay guide us.

The HUD is there. You could see the threat levels, the fury orbs. All the attacks happen in real time and so do the enemy reactions. You get to see stealth, disguises, combat, takedowns and executions all coming together in the same gameplay loop.

Fear is your weapon (even in stealth)

I wrote this exact heading in our last gameplay trailer, but looking back at this one, I had a bit of a moment of clarity.

There’s a very small scene in the trailer where Chola is hiding in the grass. He accidentally makes a noise, which alerts an enemy guard, and the guy comes looking for him. Chola then mimics the hiss of a snake, and the guard gets scared enough to abandon his pursuit.

It’s a tiny moment, but it made me realize something: even in stealth, Chola uses fear as a weapon.

We’re glad Gamescom happened

If we’d stuck to the original plan, we (and you guys more than us) would have waited another month. Instead, an unexpected opportunity gave us a reason to show you a hopefully cool glimpse of what it’s like to play Son of Thanjai.

The longer walkthrough video is next, so definitely stay tuned for that.

Watch the full gameplay trailer above, and if you want to follow Vinna’s journey, add Son of Thanjai to your wishlist on your platform of choice.

Son of Thanjai releases in Spring 2027 on PC, XBOX X|S, and PS5.
